Thank you for sharing your child with me this year. This is going to be a fun and exciting year!  I am  a 2007 graduate from Sam Houston State University. I am married to my husband, Adam, and we have two beautiful sons, Kaden and Kash. I taught first grade for 10 years. This year I look forward to working closely with you. Taking an active roll in your child's education is the biggest key to your child's academic success. With you and I working as a team, your child's first grade experience will be a successful and happy journey.  10122015_75542_0.jpg

Conferences:  I know that school is the best for children when parents and teachers communicate.  Please get in touch with me whenever you have a concern or question.  You can call the Birnham Woods main office (832-663-4200) and leave a message for me to call you back.  My conference time is from 10:05-11:05, and I would be glad to make an appointment to meet with you. My email address at the school is This is the best option of contact. The simplest way to contact me is to send a note to school with your child in his/her daily folder.
Folders: Green daily folders go home every day which include important information from school as well as your child's homework and conduct. Please check and sign the daily conduct square everyday and return to school. A  Birnham Woods Bulldog folder will go home on Fridays with graded papers. If a grade is below a 75 please sign and return the corrected work in the Bulldog folder on that following Monday.

Coming Late/ Leaving Early:  Students are counted tardy starting at 7:45 am and absent at 9:00 am unless the student was at the doctor and provides a note upon returning.  Attendance is very important to your child's learning.

Getting Home From School:  If for any reason your child has a change in transportation, please send a dated note to school with them, signature required.  Without a note, they will have to follow their regular way of transportation. This is mainly for the safety of your child.

Report Cards: Report cards are sent home every grading period to keep you informed of your child’s progress. This will help you celebrate your child’s
accomplishments and will provide a snapshot of areas in which a little extra support is needed.

Parent Access: Please register for a parent access account so you can view information regarding your students attendance, report cards, progress reports, daily grades,  and available lunch money.

Sending Medicine to School:  Please send your child to school only when he or she is well.  If you
do need to send medicine to school for your child, you must deliver the medicine in person - no medicines are allowed on the school bus or in children's backpacks.  Medicines will be kept in the nurse’s office. The nurse will administer the medicine at the proper time.  Medicine must not be expired, and it must be sent in its original container with the directions and the child's name on it.

PTO: I would love to have 100% parent participation in the PTO.  The PTO gives your child a voice in how different things are being run in the school.
                           word work pic.jpg
Word Study Words:  Each week we will be studying a different word chunk. As a class, we will generate a list of as many words as we can think of that have the chunk we are studying. The goal for your child is to apply the spelling pattern to many other words. This process of word study is fun for the students, as they discover all the new words they can spell by simply changing a letter or two. Also, each week, we will introduce 5-6 sight words. This will help them with their reading and writing. Please study the word chunk of the week with your child, as well as the sight words for the week. These are in their take home folder.
